Rear Window /Vinduet mot bakgården has developed from the drawings made by Cecilie Maurud Barstad at the beginning of the corona crisis. Her extraordinary illustrations are accompanied by short, pithy narratives. From the balcony of her flat, in the converted old Arsenal Stadium in London, she has spent weeks and months observing, studying, and drawing her neighbours in lockdown. In her colourful images and poetic texts the reader enters her back courtyard in Highbury with all its smells, conversations, noise and silence, sunshine and rain. The foreword has been written by Lene Renneflott, leader of Grafill. Author Benedicte Meyer Kroneberg has composed an essay, and Maurud Barstad is interviewed by arts writer Sondre Sommerfelt. The book is bilingual in English and Norwegian.
